I just like the moment I was in when I was there at this time of night. The sun was going down behind me in Destin, Florida.

Some people put the rods down and left them to fish themselves! I was in Destin, Florida.

Kellerhouse

This is Ivy Green, where Helen Keller herself grew up with her mom, dad, brother and sister, and Ms. Anne Sullivan. My sister and I went to Tuscumbia, Alabama for the Helen Keller Festival-an arts and crafts show that celebrates Keller's accomplishments as well as local artists and children's art.

There was a little flower garden in the center of the walkway outside the back door of Helen Keller's home. While shooting the famous water spout and other memorabilia, I of course got distracted by bees on flowers. I really like this photo, no matter how many times others have done them before, like my friends say, "Everything's been done before."

My sister and I traveled on to Tuscumbia, Alabama for the Helen Keller Festival. My sister was an Early Interventionist for AIDB the previous year and she graduated with intent to become a speech pathologist or an audiologist. She currently works with autistic children.
I have worn hearing aids since I was three years old after a series of ear infections and a doctor's bad judgment. I finally read Helen Keller's Story of My Life. I had developed a plan before the semester ended to do projects on Travel Photography. I wanted to represent my interpretations of traveling locally due to limited financial funds and the ticking down of my time left in college. I have a lot of work to do to get my writing up to par, so maybe this whole blogging fiasco can help.
So while reading up on some fun places to go around Alabama and other Southeastern States, I found out about the Helen Keller Festival. "No way!" My sister had of course heard of it and said she wanted to go, so we planned on going. After lots of obstacles that threatened to prevent us from going, right on up to TRAVELOCITY booking us wrongly and trying to put it all on us to pay up the difference (which we said a big fat Heyy No..), we made it. Tuscumbia's not much, but it was nice.
This book of braille was set up inside a back room of Helen Keller's home with other trophies and memorabilia; photos, a bronze cast of a child Helen, letters, notes, etc. I'll post other photos later.

I went down to Dothan with my mother and nephew after discovering that my ancestors had a family plot down there. I wanted to do something with a grid so I created one with the straight on shots of my ancestors' gravestones. It was so bright that day, and the plot faced an endless (well, it looked endless) meadow of green grass with trees surrounding it. The plot featured other families and several were all interconnected through marriages. The street down to the plot was such a dusty dirt road with cotton fields and tractors. It felt surreal to me coming from the suburbs and our versions of a city. I felt transported to a farmer's era. It was all around strange. We even passed a place called the Pioneer's Village, a little area off the side of the road that recreated the life styles of the Pioneers. I also passed a metal cow and a metal rooster on the side of the roads. We also went to the Sign Man's home.
